President
Rob F.

This is an Officer of the Association (see Bylaw definition below). The President is responsible for :

  1. Calling and conducting the board meetings (3rd Thursday per month)
  2. Calling and conducting the annual general meeting (April)
  3. Being the primary contact point for the association
  4. Ensuring key board and volunteer positions are filled

Bylaw definition:
4.2 Duties of President: The president's duty is to direct the affairs of the Association subject to its regulations and to preside at all general and Board Meetings.

Vice President & Hike Coordinator
Karen B.

This is an Officer of the Association (see Bylaw definition below). The position's main responsibility is to chair the board meetings when the President is absent and attend board meetings giving your input for the decisions made. Board meetings are approximately 2 hours on the third Thursday evening monthly. Ideally this position grooms an individual to be the next President.

Bylaw definition:
4.3 Duties of the Vice-President: The Vice President will exercise the powers and duties of the president in the president's absence.
4.2 Duties of President: The president's duty is to direct the affairs of the Association subject to its regulations and to preside at all general and Board Meetings.

The Hike Coordinator chairs the Hike Committee and is primarily responsible for locating Hike Leaders.

Treasurer

This is an Officer of the Association (see Bylaw definition below).

Bylaw definition:
4.5 Duties of the Treasurer
The treasurer will handle the funds of the Association, maintain and keep custody of the financial books of the Association, present a financial statement at the annual general meeting, submit the necessary yearly documents to the Federal and Provincial Governments and perform such other duties in connection with the finances of the Association as the Board may require.

The treasurer’s records are open to any member upon two days’ notice in writing.

Secretary

This is an Officer of the Association (see Bylaw definition below).

Bylaw definition:
4.3 Duties of the Secretary: The secretary will handle the correspondence of the Association, notify members of the Association of general meetings, notify Board members of Board meetings, record the minutes of all general meetings and all Board meetings and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Board.

The secretary’s records are open to any member upon two days’ notice in writing.

Membership Secretary
Joanne B.

This is an Officer of the Association (see Bylaw definition below). This position performs the following functions:

  • Receives new, renewal, gift and honorary membership requests
  • Maintains a record of members
  • Reports to the board membership status (current members, types, etc.)
  • Maintains a stock of Association merchandise (guide books, pins, etc.)
  • Sells merchandise to members upon request and payment
  • Provides an accounting for the above activities to the board and members

Bylaw definition:
4.6 Duties of the Membership Secretary
The membership secretary will keep a record of paid-up members. This record must include names, addresses, telephone numbers and any other information required by the Board of the Alberta government.
The record is open to any member upon two days’ notice in writing.

Webmaster

Publicity Director is responsible for:

  1. Promoting the Sunday Hike Schedule, Socials and AGM
  2. Promoting the association within the community
  3. Developing brochures, posters and other promotions

The Webmaster is responsible for:

  1. Website is current and accurate
  2. Assisting the Hike Master with the Hike Schedule
  3. Assisting with technical website issues or problems

Associate Webmaster [non-board position]

The Webmaster is responsible for:

  1. Website is current and accurate
  2. Assisting the Hike Master with the Hike Schedule

Equipment Manager
David M.

The Equipment Manager is responsible for all the equipment and material required to maintain the Waskahegan Trail System, this includes the equipments:

  1. Maintenance, storage, inventory
  2. Purchase replacement equipment and materials as required
  3. Dispose of old equipment
  4. Training of operators and ensuring the equipment's safe operation

The association's present equipment includes:

  • Major Equipment: 3 mowers, 4 weed eaters, 10 chainsaws and a trailer.
  • Personal safety equipment: ???
  • Hand Tools: clippers, hammers, shovels, hand saws
  • Consumables: signs, flagging, nails, gas and oil etc
  • At the present the bulk of the equipment is stored in commercial storage shed where it is available for use by all the work crews

    Volunteer Liason
    Sandra C.

    Communicates volunteer needs with the Volunteer Action Centers in Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and other municipalities such as Camrose and Fort Saskatchewan. Seek out volunteers for Trail Maintenance Workers (chain saw operators, weed-eater operators, and power mower operators), Trail Maintenance Leaders and Hike Leaders.

    Note that this position is not responsible for the overall association volunteer strategy or management. These activities currently reside with the board.
